Primate Molecular Evolution
Our goal is to understand what makes us human. And what makes chimps, chimps. In other words, we seek to determine the functional effects of evolutionary changes in humans, chimpanzees, gorillas, and other primates. To do this, we use both computational and empirical approaches. This includes quantifying enzymatic activity and protein-protein interactions of homologous proteins from these species. We also examine effects on expression levels using reporter assays and proteomics. This research mostly focuses on genes/proteins in the reproductive system.
